Acne

Acne affects most people at some point in their lives. It is a long-term inflammatory condition caused by overproduction of oil (sebum), congestion of dead skin cells, inflammation and bacterial colonisation. In order to successfully treat acne, it is important to address each of these causes…see more

Bunny Lines

Certain movements like smiling can cause the muscle on the nose to wrinkle up and eventually cause static lines to appear across the bridge of the nose….see more

Crows Feet

Crow’s feet, also known as ‘smile lines’ are small wrinkles that appear at the corners of the eyes, and are often identified as one of the first signs of ageing visible in the face.

We make facial expressions all day, when eating, speaking and laughing, the movement of the facial structures in the mid and lower face can all contribute to fines lines appearing as a result causing the skin to eventually begin to lose its elasticity.

As we get older the underlying structures are changing, the loss of subcutaneous fat that was naturally present, the skin is less efficient at regenerating and producing collagen and elasticity, essential for firm, wrinkle-free skin.

External factors such as UV exposure, smoking, smiling, excessive squinting as well as the ageing process all contribute to lines forming in the thin, delicate layers of skin around the eye. As the elasticity of skin around this thin layer diminishes the skin is unable to bounce back to its original state.

Crow’s feet cannot be prevented entirely, but we can help to slow down the production of these….see more

Dry/Dull Skin

Dull, dry or dehydrated skin is a common problem affecting almost all of us at some point. It is the result of a number of factors including environment, menopause, sun exposure, the ageing process, smoking, depletion of our own hyaluronic acid, diet and lifestyle, and the build of dead skin cells on the surface.

Keratinocytes (cells) are created at the base of the epidermis and slowly move to the surface, becoming flatter & drier and are eventually shed from the skin. Inadequate shedding leads to a build-up of dead, dry skin cells, and makes the skin look dull and dry, highlighting fine lines. This can be resolved by improving skin exfoliation with topical skincare and chemical peels. Hydration can be resorted with treatments including, bio-revitalisation skinboosters, topical skincare, microneedling and Bioremodeling (profhilo)….see more

Eyelid Sagging

Sagging eyelids are a common problem as we get older. The loss of fat, collagen, elastin and natural skin hydration leads to loose, lax skin. It can be more visible on the upper and lower eyelids, where the skin is very thin and delicate. Some people also have naturally hooded or heavy lids which are often genetic.

In the case of the lower eyelids this can make the underlying vessels visible contributing to dark circles as well.

Both sagging eyelids and dark undereye circles can make a person appear tired, fatigued and look older than you are. It can also affect your ability to wear eye shadow.

Sagging of the upper or lower lids can give the appearance of tiredness and fatigue, and affect the ability to wear makeup such as eyeshadow, eyeliner or foundation….see more

Facial Volume Loss

As we age, our face loses its fullness due to loss of fat, shrinking of the muscles, and bone re-absorption. Collagen and elastin production slows down, causing thinning of the skin with loss of elasticity leaving it unable to support the underlying structures. This loss of facial volume results in the appearance of lines, wrinkles and sagging or atrophy of the face.

Reduction in the hormonal oestrogen can help accelerate this process, along with lifestyle factors such as smoking and sun damage also contribute to skin ageing.

This gives rise to hollowing of the temples, under-eye tear troughs, flatter cheeks in the mid face, nose to mouth lines, marionette lines, along with a heaviness and sagging of the skin in the lower face creating jowls, receding chin and an uneven jawline.

Dermal fillers are very effective in restoring facial volume, because they can replace lost volume, help firm up and lift skin, smooth and soften wrinkles and deliver natural looking results….read more

Forehead Lines

Forehead lines, vertical furrows across the forehead, are caused by the frontalis muscle. As the eyebrows are raised, this muscle contracts to cause wrinkles above the brow. A variety of factors can make these wrinkles worse, including genetics, age, and smoking and sun damage….see more

Frown Lines

Frown lines are the furrows between the eyebrows, generally shaped like the number 11. These lines can become quite deep in some people causing self-consciousness and lack of self-confidence.

They are caused by a variety of factors over the years including the gradual loss of collagen, elastin and skin hydration, sun damage, smoking and repetitive furrowing of the brows during facial expressions, gravity and mechanical compression….see more

Jaw Line, Chin & Jowls

The chin is a commonly ignored feature, but is a vital structure of the face, along with the jawline and jowls that can all be treated together or individually depending on individual concerns.

Augmentation is restoring proportion to the lower portion of the face using dermal filler. This method is loved for its ease, and immediate visible results. Dermal filler in the chin can be used to add weight to a short or weaker jawline or to a retrograde setback chin, as well as reduce the appearance of jowls and sharpening the jawline and can make a significant impact on the overall appearance of the face….see more

Lines & Wrinkles

Lines and wrinkles are creases that form in the skin but they are also the result of collagen and elastin loss, a decline in our own hyaluronic acid, skin sagging, repeated movement creasing the skin and compression of the skin during sleep. Over time they become deeper and more noticeable.

There are several factors that can then accelerate the formation of these lines and wrinkles including skin type, genetics, sun exposure, smoking and an unhealthy diet.

However, these lines must be assessed as part of the overall ageing process of the face….see more

Lip Lines Upper/Lower

Also called smoker’s lines, these are not exclusive to smokers but to expressions i.e. pouting.

These vertical lip lines can be a source of self-consciousness for many people. These develop over time, and are fine lines and wrinkles that go from the vermilion border at the edge of the lip outwards, either down towards the chin or up towards the nose….see more

Pigmentation / Melasma / Age Spots

The colour of your skin, hair and eyes is determined by a pigment called melanin. This pigment is produced by pigment-cells called melanocytes which evenly distribute pigment throughout the skin, giving a smooth and even complexion. Unhealthy, inflamed or damaged melanocytes can over-produce clumps of pigment leading to pigmentation issues….see more

Skin Tags, Moles and Xanthelasma

Xanthelasma – are yellowish deposit of cholesterol underneath the skin. It usually occurs on or around the eyelids. While they are neither harmful to the skin nor painful, these minor growths may be disfiguring and can be removed.

Skin tags – are small, usually flesh coloured growths that grow to hang from surrounding skin on a small stalk called a peduncle. They are made of loose collagen fibres and blood vessels surrounded by skin, so they tend to bleed.

Moles –occur when cells in the skin grow in a cluster instead of being spread throughout the skin. These cells are called melanocytes, that make the pigment that gives skin its natural colour. Moles may darken after exposure to the sun….see more

Under Eye Hollows

Under eye circles and hollows are a common problem at any age. As we age and lose volume from the fat pads under the eye we get hollow tear troughs (area between the lower eyelid and upper cheek). This area of skin is very thin and delicate and when volume loss is present if can cause the underlying vessels to show through the skin causing dark circles or shadows, making the area look worse, making you look tired and unwell….see more
